Invictus By William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul
.

A Poem Worth Thinking About

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

Breaking Free from Fear

According to Wikipedia Fear can be widely classified into two types: external fear and internal fear.
  • External fear is caused by something outside or inside of you which you are strongly motivated to avoid, for example: fear of spiders.
  • Internal fear is something inside of you that you link a negative emotion, for example: fear developed out of low self-esteem.
Fear, like many emotions, is very powerful. This affects us mentally and physically; personal and interpersonal consequences can arise from fear. Fears can be paralyzing to people and affect their lives in many ways; I've seen it in my own life.

I look at my life and all my missed opportunities all because I feared what people would say if I failed. Not realizing that I was not living for myself anymore but for people who didn't really care about me, they continued with their lives without fearing what I would say about them. We live life for ourselves we fall and we get up that's what life is all about, lessons.

With every fall we learn something new of how to overcome challenges that we face in our lives, relationships, school, businesses and other areas. The funny thing about life is that when we hear a success story of someone who made it big in life we always here about the good side the happy time but no one really gets into details of the sleepless nights, the lack of support from family and hurdles one was faced with for the first 3 years until his project succeeded 5 years later.

So as a young person you grow up without the tip that you will fall but you need to get up and try again, especially when you lack support and you are your only source of courage and strength. When there is no one to push you and help you get up, when the only people that comment are those that discuss your fall and the wounds you have.My prayer to God for all young people is for us to live out our dreams, our passions and our desires.

I think you owe it to yourself to succeed and live a fulfilled life, you owe to yourself to live a life of no regrets because there was a time when the regret seemed like the right thing to do when you did it.

I think when David wrote Psalms 37:4 " delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart" he actually experienced it in his own life. Think of the time David defeated Goliath, there were men who were way older than him who feared Goliath. It could have been that these men knew what the giant was capable of doing. These men heard Goliath defile the name of the living God but none of them had it in their hearts and minds that by the help of God they could overcome Goliath. How many people who walk this planet today who live with a lot of fears in their lives? Fear of the unknown, fear of poverty, fear of sickness, fear of death, fear of criticism, fear of many other things.
What surprises me is that in the bible God addresses fear because He knew us even before the foundations of the earth and knitted us together in our mothers’ wombs.

Isaiah 41:10 says
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Make a decision today to achieve your goals and live your dream. It might not be easy but it’s possible and the rewards are greater than the sweat and tears that you will face.
Success is sweet, taste it!
